February 11, 2020 @ 9:15 am - 3:30 pm£100.00
This session will draw upon the latest research and best practice in laying down the foundations for happy and successful readers. As well as sharing creative and meaningful ways of helping children to apply early phonic skills and word recognition, strategies will also be explored for supporting all children to develop an understanding and love of books.
During the course Kym will unpick how to help children achieve high outcomes in reading, by teaching them the way they learn best – through playful, practical experience and the creative use of high quality texts.
Participants will have opportunities to:
- Explore the key elements of learning to read and how best to support these with young children
- Gain ideas for a range of playful experiences designed to enhance children’s reading skills and understanding of the texts they are engaging with
- Equip delegates with a new repertoire of games and ideas for making phonics teaching more engaging for children
- Give a brief overview of the stages involved in becoming a reader in order to help delegates match teaching to the developmental stage of the children they are working with
